Vintage reproduction quilt

Yellow and white feathered star, I used vintage white cotton sheets I bought several years ago at an auction in Exeter and pale yellow cotton that was once curtains no one wanted.
The quilt design is my version of a quilt made in the late 1800’s.
I wanted to practice my feathers both freehand and electronic and went a little crazy but had a lot of fun.

Slims quilt

Meet Slim, a stray cat who has moved in with me, he is adorable so I thought he should have his own quilt.
So I made him this one.
It’s 50” square, made with Kaffe Fasset fabrics, pure wool batting and a super soft fleece backing.
Lightly quilted on the mini machine.
So far Slim has not even looked at it let alone sit or sleep on it, Poppet on the other hand likes it just fine.
Or many be not!
Although he does sit or sleep on every other quilt in the house!
Especially if I am working near by.
Just not the one I made for him!

A super fast throw quilt made from leftovers.

A super easy and fast throw quilt made with 8.5” squares.
I used left over fabric from an other quilt.
I bought the fabric in New Zealand last year, I wanted to make a quilt for myself to remind me of my trip to an incredibly beautiful country.
I wanted it to be super soft and cuddly, I chose a very sweet E2E pantograph design, feathers and flowers.
The backing fabric is again left over from an other quilt, it’s really a Christmas design but I liked it so much and the fabric so soft I thought I would use it.
Here it is with a couple of pillows I made using lots of scrap fabric and some little 3.5” orphan blocks.
I’m loving this quilt, it will be fabulous in the summer for picnics.

Spring flowers quilt

Lots of machine appliqué flowers and hearts, fresh spring colours.
Although I have lightly machine quilted this quilt I’m not finished it entirely, I will be hand quilting it using the big stitch method with lots of different threads, I will do this in the summer outside in the sun.

I welcome visitors but do advise you to book an appointment with me first, I look forward to seeing you Monday to Friday 09.00 to 17.00 and am happy to have you visit in the evening or weekend if necessary.

At the studio you can use the equipment to make up your backing and cut your binding. I am very happy to help you with this and to go over the check list below with you. The studio has sewing machines, rotary cutters and mats and a lovely big table to work on, as well as everything you will need for quilting.

Preparation of quilt Checklist, important.

• Do not baste your quilt – Your quilt goes on my long arm machine in three separate layers so there is no need to baste.

• Trim any loose threads so darker threads won’t show under light fabric. This really does make a difference, particularly for white and contrasting quilts.

• Your backing and wadding need to be at least 15cm larger on all sides. This is the ideal size we like to work with. However, if your backing is a little shorter than these measurements then do contact me to check before making any alterations to your backing.

• Trim any selvedges and press open seams on backing joins.

• It is fine to leave the selvedges on outer edges of backings as eventually they will be trimmed.

• Square up your backing.

• If your quilt is directional, pin a note indicating the top end.

• Have your quilt insured if you are posting it. This is worth doing and you can do this on line at When I post quilts back I always have them insured.
