Jul i juli

A fun little tablerunner, very easy to make and a great way to use up some of those christmas fabrics we all have in our stash.

Start by attaching the sashing to the centre blocks .

I have attache a PDF of the full pattern below in Danish and english.

Derefter den øverste og nederste indre kant.

Then attach the top and bottom inner border.

Derefter de ydre sidekanter

Then attach the side outer border

Finally the top and bottom outer borders.

A nice touch would be to add some applique traditional horses like this one.

Here are some quilting ideas you could do using your Walking Foot or your Freemotion Rler Foot with a ruler.

Vibeke, It’s a lot Quilt

Vibeke with her fabulous “ it’s a lot “ quilt by Sew-be, Vibeke quilted it herself using Poppy longarm, she used a pale pink threat on the top and light blue on the back, she did organic straight lines about 2cm apart.
It’s a gorgeous quilt made entirely from scraps she had already, pieced and appliqué.

I think Vibeke’s colours are really fabulous, so bright and jewel like.
She did a fabulous job of quilting it herself on Poppy Longarm, she bravely tried out a new setting and mastered it completely, her stitches are perfect.

Dolly quilt with pillows

This months Mini Quilt Along is a super fun and cute dolly quilt for a child’s dolls bed. The quilt is a good size for American Girl, Generation Girl and other similar sized dolls.

Along with the quilt there is instruction for the Pillows including the pillow pads and also for cushions using up the leftover fabric from the quilt.

There is a PDF downloadable pattern/tutorial below the post. In English and one in Danish.

You can make the quilt, pillows and cushions using yardage or dig into your scrap basket and have fun using them up.

I used my scraps from my Liberty cotton lawn prints stash, this fabric is a lot finer than traditional quilting fabric, I had no problems sewing it and really love the super soft results, I think I will have to make a full size quilt like it for myself.

I used 100% cotton flannel for the batting to make the quilt a little softer so it would drape more realistically on a dolls bed.

The pillowcases are removable and have little pillows inside making them easy to wash or if you wanted you could make some more covers and change them as the seasons change, what fun.

I made a white sheet for my dolls bed using a fat-quarter which I just hemmed all around and gave it a good press. You could add elastic to the corners to make it more fitted.

Some colour ideas for your cushions, quilt and pillows.

Flower power pillow

Step by step.

I like to make two of the same pillows.

For each pillow you will need.

Background 20” x 20” white

Batting 21” x 21”

Backing 21” x 21”

FQ green for leaves and stems.

Bundle of scraps for the flowers and bugs.

Optional spray baste.

Printable Heat n Bond sheets, available from Helenjuuldesigns.dk

½ meter fabric for the back of the pillow.

2 x 20” zips

White, green and mixed colours of thread.

Pillow pads I bought mine from Ikea, INNER 50cm x x50cm (20” x 20”)

You will find a downloadable PDF file with all the flower and leaf templates at the end of the tutorial.

Prepare your quilt sandwich, I used spray base but you can just lightly pin or sew baste them.

Print or trace the flower templates on to the Heat n Bond.

I have added a page of stems and leaves you can print and use for the green stems but I prefer to use one piece of Heat n Bond and cut my stems as shown.

Continue to make and cut out your stems, leaves, flowers and insects. You can use as many flowers as you like the design is yours so have fun, no two pillows will be the same.

Lay out your leaves first, remove the backing paper and press them to the background fabric as shown, or in your design choice.

Sew them using a straight stitch along the edges and make some extra lines to define the leaves

Now take all your flower pieces and lay them out as shown or in your design choice.

Peel the paper from the back of the flower as shown and press the flower sticky side down to your desired position.

Continue in the manner until you are happy with your layout.

Sewing the flowers. I used matching threads for each flower. Sew carefully around the flowers a few times, I did three rounds. Cut the tread.

Once you have sewn the petals, add the centers of the flowers and sew them in place as before.

Next place the insect bodies or wings on the pillow randomly.Sew them in place and then add the wings or bodies and sew them in place. Adding antenna and stingers where needed.

Now you are ready to quilt the pillow.

I used a simple swirl design all around the flowers, I did not quilt on top of them apart from when I added a spider’s web for fun.

Your pillow top is now complete, trim it to 19.5” square.

Prepare the pillow back.

Cut a piece of fabric 19.5″ x 11″, and another piece 19.5” x 12”, fold and press the top 2” inward as shown.

Sew the zip to the first piece as shown below.

And the other side to the second piece as shown, it must be close to the inner part of the 2” lip

Attach a ribbon to the sip pull and leave an opening so you can turn the pillow later.

Sew twice around the edge, taking care when sewing over the zip, trim the corners and turn the pillow right sides out.

Here is the pillow pad I used in my pillows.
