I had the greatest privilege of recently when ask by not one but two quilters to machine quilt their beautiful hand pieced quilts, quilt tops!

The ladies asked for a free-motion swirl, my most favorite free-motion style.

I entered my “Atom” quilt into the Modern Quilt category at the Birmingham quilt show, sadly I was not able to attend the show myself but a great friend Gitte was going and she sent me these photos of it.

The quilt was awarded “Judges Choice”!

Its a double sided quilt here is the grey side.

I use Superior Threads OMNI 40 wt poly-wrapped poly core and Isacord 40 and have a small selection of cotton threads in cream and Ivory.

I am expecting a shipment of Isacord thread in September so will have lots more colours to show you then.

This is an amazing Gravity quilt by Vibeke from Aarhus and I got the privilege of long arm quilting it for her, it is a very big queen/king size quilt beautifully pieced with fantastic colors.

Vibeke had some great ideas for the quilt and chose some wonderful designs.

We decided that it would be good to match the colours so I used three different grey tones and outlined each large diamond block.

Then colour for colour on each of the coloured diamond blocks and each block has a different design.

It was such a joy to work on, perfectly straight.

Its double sided quilt grey on one side and black on the other.

Its remarkable soft considering the amount of quilting on it, each design is individually quilted and hand finished so it took many many hours to complete.

Its just a little bigger than a throw quilt and folds and rolls up to an easy to carry size.

 

Abby

My good friend Abby recently sent me a huge bundle of fabric and in among it I found  some black and white blocks some finished some just cut, I added a little of my own fabric and finished up the quilt.

I quilted it with an all over flower design.

I used an amazing fabric for the back which adds even more drama.

A totally fun finish and one I am going to keep for myself and will always think of Abby when I use it.

This is a fun little picnic quilt, its totally made out of scraps so not even the background white is not made from just one white. I used a lovely bright yellow with green dots that I found in a huge bag of fabric that my sister Susan gave me, (she hauled it up to Devon on the train from London believe me I don’t know how she did it I could hardly lift it!) for the backing and binding.

Its just a nice size to take to the beach or anywhere you just want to sit and stare at the sky.

I let a friend (you know who you are) practice her longarm quilting on it so there are a few issues with it but I don’t really mind as this quilt has sisterhood and friendship sewn into it.
