Traditional quilt

IMG_7148

I made these block a couple of years ago, I have another set of the blocks to make into another quilt as I did not need a queen size quilt so split them.

I used a panto-graph to quilt the solid blocks and free-motioned a meander on the pieced blocks.

Mod quilt

IMG_7119

I am new to modern quilting, my friends here in Denmark are always encouraging me to give it a go.

This side has 2″ squares  in the off center panel.

Its a double sided quilt with the back or front being a bit traditional with a star and a little patterned fabric.

I used cotton satin and some light weight linen to give texture, I reversed some of the cotton satin to dull it down a bit for even more texture.

Had some fun photographing it outside in the wind and woods.

Dear Jane White

I started this Dear Jane at the same time as I started the Cream Dear Jane for my husband but really wanted to finished Peter’s so put it away. This winter was a cold one and it was impossible to work in my studio a lot of the time so set up a small Singer  Featherweight sewing machine on my dining table in the house and worked on the blocks from time to time and managed to get them all done, I have not sewn the blocks together but it is good feeling to get all the blocks done.

Birthday Quilt in Cotton and Satin

This super soft quilt is made using over 32 different cotton lawn fabrics, I lost count as I was cutting them into 4″ squares.

IMG_4371

I have been collecting the cotton for many years some of the are Liberty cotton lawn and others City Cotton a manufacturer I find producing the loveliest cotton lawns.

IMG_4370

I randomly pieced the square only changing a square if two exactly the same ended up together, I did leave any that were the same design but a different colour.

I  wanted the quilt to be reversible and found one of my vintage sari’s in just the right colour, it is made of shot satin so was slippery. I decided that as the quilting would not really show on the patchwork side of the quilt that I would quilt it back to front with the top on the bottom and the backing on the top, I was not sure how my machine would handle this but Daisy Longarm was great and I had no problems at all.

Tilly – Rose

I have made Quilts and pillows for Andy and Gill in Devon before, I am always please when I get a new order from them as its always for something bright and colourful, this latest Pillow is no exception.

FEB 16 013

They wanted a pillow that Tilly-Rose, now one year old would still be happy to use when she was older.

First I appliqued Tilly-Rose on the top of the pillow then I placed the leaves randomly around, I then machine embroidered the stems and leaves in place. I then had fun cutting and placing flowers and berries which I then free motion machine embroidered on. I micro quilted a tiny loopy loop all over the white background and a figure of eight on the patchwork border. Such a lot of quilting fun.

Pillows and patchwork

I have finished the quilt I was making from the fabric that my friend Ethel sent over to me, the lovely Christmas fabric is so soft and was really nice to work with, I wanted a nice quilt to cuddle up with by the fire in the winter and looks like I got it finished just in time after the storm last night.

STORM NOV 15 086

I made a snuggle cuddle quilt for my son for a Christmas present, I don’t often work with black and white but had fun with this quilt, I used a  cotton lawn fabric to keep it soft, I kept the piecing very simple and used a charcoal fleece for the back then quilted it using Kathy Davies’s pantograph Feather Feather.

This quilt is going to my cottage in Devon, its made using lots and lots of scraps and scrap white background fabric too, I backed it with white fabric with the Danish flag on it, I quilted stars and swirls all over it.
