I have been very busy piecing and quilting a wall hanging for an artist in the highlands of Scotland. The quilt will be shown on the 14th of November so I can only show you a sneak preview for now.
I will post the whole quilt after the unveiling.
The Quilters Album of Patwork Patterns by Jinny Beyer.
I have wanted this book for a long time and decided that I would treat myself and sent for it at the weekend.
I was not disappointed, nearly 500 pages of patchwork blocks, advice and ideas, I foresee many hours pouring through this beautiful book, the inside cover looks great and gives you a feeling of wanting to turn the page to see what’s inside. Inside the back cover there are two transparent sheets with all the block grids on them, very useful.
Inside it’s clearly written and easy to understand, I have already got lots of ideas in my head for my next quilt.
Its just the book I need right now.
A fun and colourful baby quilt custom made for a client in London.
Free – motion quilted with relaxed swirls making the quilt very soft and cuddly.
Its important to me that I make or quilt quilts that are 100% usable, I think that there is nothing better being able to snuggle up in a handmade quilt, something that will go on giving for years to come.
This quilt ,a design by Kellie Wulfsohn, is the quilt that made me really want to take the next step from mid – arm quilting, I spent months machine appliqueing and embroidering the flowers, leaves and stems on to the background. There was no way with the limited space on the mid – arm was going to be able to quilt around all the flowers and stems I also did not want to go back to quilting it on my domestic machine.
I used nice bright white batting as the white background of the quilt is white muslin and a cream batting would have dulled the white, I did a swirly pattern with bright white thread and outlined the leaves. I was so nervous quilting this top and it took me a long time.
But it was worth it, I love the look of the quilt but most of all I love the feel of it, its very soft, I splashed out and used a pink Kaffe Fasset backing.
Below is a pillow I practiced on before I attempted the quilt.
I hope you will drop by from time to time to check out my machine quilting adventures with Daisy.
