Julia Triston er en velkendt professionel tekstilkunstner, der for nylig er flyttet til Danmark fra Storbritannien. Hun udstiller og underviser internationalt og er udgivet forfatter af to anerkendte bøger:How to be Creative in Textile Art and Contemporary Appliqué.
Hun har undervist i sine egne skræddersyede klasser inden for tekstilkunst og design mange anerkendte steder, herunder Royal School of Needlework på Hampton Court Palace i London og Fiber Arts Symposium i New Zealand.
Julia er et valgt medlem af den prestigefyldte Textile Study Group og grundlagde en international sømskole -STITCHBUSINESS.
Fra juni 2021 afholder Julia en række minikurser, dagskoler og intensive weekendworkshops i Brenda Saunders atelier i Kolt.

Techniques:
You will learn the techniques of couching and applying with decorative stitches, making wrapped cords, and binding edges with free machine embroidery. All techniques can be adapted for your own textile projects.

To make a needle case (12cms x 14cms) with a wrapped cord fastening you will need:
Materials:
o Several lengths of ribbons, braids, or tapes in different widths, colours and textures (you need different types for contrast). Choose a selection that look good together – eg ‘warm colours’, or ‘earthy colours’.
o In the same colour range as your ribbons, braids or tapes, you will need:
o Machine threads – 6 or more colours
o Embroidery threads or yarns – a minimum of 1 metre in 6 colours
o Coloured fabric for the lining (approximately 25cms x 17cms)
o Felt for the inside pages – up to three different colours (approximately 24cms x 14cms)
o White background fabric (approximately 30cms x 20cms)
o Coloured background fabric (approximately 30cms x 20cms)
o Vliesofix/Bondaweb (approximately 25cms x 17cms)
Equipment:
o Sewing machine which has decorative stitches
o Spare machine needles and bobbins
o A darning foot for free machine embroidery*
o Pins, scissors, tape measure
o Cutting mat and rotary cutter*
o Iron, ironing surface, baking parchment*
*these items can be borrowed from the studio if you don’t have them

Lene did fabulous work quilting her beautiful quilt herself! Lene was very independent and needed very little help from me. She choose her amazing quilting design, she used the ruler base and rulers to quilt in the ditch around her blocks and also managed some great ruler work designs inside her blocks.

Julia Triston is a well-known professional textile artist, recently relocated to Denmark from the UK. She exhibits and teaches internationally and is a published author of two acclaimed books: How to be Creative in Textile Art and Contemporary Appliqué.

She has taught her own bespoke classes in textile art and design in many esteemed places including the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace in London, and the Fibre Arts Symposium in New Zealand.
Julia is a selected member of the prestigious Textile Study Group, and founded an international stitch school – STITCHBUSINESS – in 2006. Many of Julia’s students have won awards.
From June 2021, Julia will be running a series of mini courses, day schools and intensive weekend workshops at Brenda Saunders’s studio in Kolt.
