Long Time Gone

I have been working on Jen Kingswell’s quilt “Long Time Gone” I thought it would be a good exersize in piecing. I need to learn to slow down when I am piecing and this has helped a little, I used only the scraps from my scrap jars and scrap basket so it is very multi coloured. I have made all the block but have not yet pieced them all together. As the work starts on the  upgrade to the studio tomorrow I really dont see me getting it finished any time soon. Some of the blocks are way better than others.

AnneMarie’s black beauty!

AnneMarie’s hand stitched Kaffe Fasset fabric stars on a black background is stunning.

Before it was trimmed. Just look at the amazing stars they really stand out on the black background.

With all the quilts I quilt I like to make sure there is no fluf or lint on the top before I start quilting. Its espically important with black quilts. As you can see below even one tiny bit of fluff shows up. it was quickly removed with masking tape! I used black batting as it keeps the black in the fabric black, if you know what I mean.

I thought it would be nice to reflect the swirls and leaves in the bright fabric, we choose a very dark pink thread for the blocks and decided to keep the sashing and border simple in black thread, there is also a tiny four petal flower in each corner stone.

The blocks are all hand stitched by AnneMarie, wow what work.

Here’s the back.

I like that AnneMarie used some of the star fabric on the back, its a pieced strip using fabric from all the stars.

Finally here’s AnneMarie’s quilt after she has added the binding using strips of all the star fabric, what a beautiful quilt.

Amish Sampler

IMG_2840

Ihave been working on this sampler quilt in between my quilting work. Its a larger throw size quilt from a pattern by Gay at http://sentimentalstitches.net/, I have had the pattern for some time but not the time to make it.

IMG_2847

All was going well with the photo shoot, then allong came Fluff!

IMG_2844

I did my best to get good pictures after that.

I quilted each block with a different feather design.

Quilt for Lizzie

IMG_2585

I think I used a piece from every piece of fabric in my stash!

IMG_2572

I wanted the quilt to be extra cosy as Lizzie lives in the Highlands of Scotland. I used extra sof plush for the backing and a bamboo batting. I am vey pleased with the results.

I quilted the blocks like a sampler as I knew it would show on the back quilte well and it did, I used a big stitch and pink thread.

Here’s Lizzie with her quilt.

Lone’s American Winter

I think I must be the luckiest longarm quilter in the world, I get beautiful hand stitched quilts made by the fantastic Danish quilters.

IMG_2375

This beautifulhand stitched and hand embroidered quilt is called American Winter.

IMG_2393

I lost cound on how many different greens and creams there are in this quilt.

IMG_2157

I wanted to quilt the quilt traditionally but what to do to enhance the winter stitchery?

IMG_2389

Snowflakes!

IMG_2392

Lots of them in different sizes and types.

I had so much fun with the snowflakes.

A nice wide border deserved a super feather design.

IMG_2394

All finished, my son came in while I was quilting this quilt and said it was amazing, he loved the colours. I used 4 different thread colours too.

IMG_2395

A beautiful quilt a joy to work with, I think I have the best job in the world!

Herdis quilt.

Herdis sent me her quilt rather than bringing it herself as she lives a long way off. It was delivered to me over night and once quilted I returned it overnight to her, it all worked out very well so if you are too far away to deliver your quilt personally then think about posting it to me, Denmark and signed for only.

IMG_2149

Herdis sent her quilt already spray basted, I was unsure if Daisy the quilting machine would be happy with this and I had to add extra fabric to the sides to enable me to attach it to the frame.

IMG_2150

It all worked out just fine, I had wondered if the glue would be a problem but it was not.

I quilted it with an all over feather meander in a med gray thread.

IMG_2153

Once off the frame I trimmed off the extra fabric ready for binding.

IMG_2154

Remember, you dont have to baste your quilt before giving it to me, just give me your quilt top. backing and batting and I will do it all for you and if you would like me to trim your quilt after quilting I will be happy to do that for you too.
