Beautiful Embroidery

Elin’s beautiful quilt.

img_0152

I had instructions not to quilt on the embroidery.

img_0151

I quilted simple flowers on the hexagons, tiny loops on the small borders, feather blocks on the outer border with a tiny meander on the dark blue blocks seaprating the feathers and in the ditch around every block.

img_0153

I used five different coloured threads on this quilt!

Elin used a lovely wide fabric she got from http://www.helenejuul.dk/butik.htm for the backing, it was a joy to work with with lots of space for practice at the side of the quilt.

Three huge quilts from the USA!

Marianne‘s three quilts.

Number 1 huge quilt.

img_9921

Marianne and her husband were given these three huge quilts tops while traveling from coast to coast USA in a RV Camper Van.

They were all piced by her uncle who they visited along the way.

img_0102

I used an edge to edge feather pantographs on each quilt each design different on each quilt.

img_0100

Number 2 huge quilt.

img_0104

The fun thing about quilting scrappy quilts is checking out all the different fabrics, where did Marianne’s uncle find all the different scraps?

Edge to edge quilting in a feather design.

img_0108

Even bigger quilt number 3!

img_0093

THis wonderful quilt top was really huge, I guess the biggest I have ever quilted.

img_0094

But super straigt so lovely to quilt.

img_0099

I cant show you the finished quilt as I cant find them, I think thay might be still in the camera, if I find them I will add them.

I also quilted this top with an edge to edge feather design but this one also had some pebbles on it too.

Marianne gave me lots of solid fabric for the backings, sage green, red and purple and picked contrasting thread so it would show up on the back as the tops are so colourful and busy the quilting does not show up to well. We then used the leftover backing fabric for the bindings. Quite a quilting marathon but lots of fun

Save

Finally a fast quilt

I saw this pattern for a star sampler on McCalls blog, http://www.mccallsquilting.com/blogs/blog/2016/03/12/i-love-this-quilt-a-sparkling-sampler/.

img_9937

Turns out the pattern was free on their freebie friday spot.

img_9932

It was an easy pattern to follow and it only took me a weekend to piece the top.

img_9934

Then it lay around until I could fit it in to be quilted.

img_9935

I freemotined a stipple/meander on all the stars in the middle, figure of eight design in the small border and a block feather design on the 6inch outer border. Thse stars above were left over from another quilt and set the colour choice for the other stars. All the fabric used were scraps.

img_9939

Apart from the backing which was a gift from my friend Abby and it matches the quilt perfectley.

Paper Pieced Stars

When I first learned paper piecing I made a bundle of star blocks on a black background.

img_9928

I have had these block in a drawer for a few years and came accross them a couple of months ago.

img_9925

I found with the blocks a bag of scraps of the fabrics I used to make them so made some bright sashing to surround them and used the rest to make the binding.

img_9930

I tried to take some nice photos of the quilt but the wind got up.

img_9929

And up, until!

img_9924

I accepted defeat!

It was good to use the blocks, I think I could have done more with the back of the quilt, but a lot of the blocks had pretty thick seams in places and it would have added a lot of bulk to the quilt if I had added pieced blocks to the back so just left it plain.

Vibeke’s log cabin

Vibeke’s quilts are always stunning.

img_9910

This is her amazing log cabin, wow! It’s stunning!

img_9911

I am loving the colours they are so bright and fresh and the way she follows the colour aroung the border matching the inner circle.

I quilted it with big open swirls in white thread.

img_9917

Vibeke made this quilt as a wall hanging for her home, I am sure it will admired by everyone who visits.

Red Bears

A few years ago I started making some red and white bears paw blocks.

img_9949

I picked some of my favourite red fabrics.

img_9950

My friends gave me some of their favourite red fabrics.

img_9944

I used the left over red solid fabric from my applique quilt Grannies Garden to make the sashing.

img_9941

And the left over reds to make big half square triangles for the border.

img_9948

I found some super soft gingham fabric in Aahrus for the backing

img_9943

I quilted it with a feather design in the blocks and a medium meander on the shasing and borders.

img_9946

I made the blocks inSaudi Arabia, pieced the top in Devon England and quilted and bound the finished quild here in beautiful Denmark!

Quilting on the Square mini paper pieced blocks

A quilt store in the US, Quilting on the Square has been giving to its newsletter subscribers six paperpiced mini blocks, FREE! This is a quilt I made useing the ones I made.

img_9961

I used a fat quarter bundle in brown, yellow and green, I just kept on making the 4 inch finished blocks until I had enought for a throw.

img_9974

I added a splash of black to the blocks to give defination.

img_9963

I made a flying goose borderwith the leftover fabricand thought they looked better with a 1 inch border of black around them, I also used the same black for the binding.

I quilted it with gray and yellow thread, my first plan was to put a mini feather design in the gray squares but when I started it just did not look very nice as the PP blocks are floating on the gray and it left gaps so out came the seam rippper and back to the drawing board.

img_9964

In the end I decided to use the mini feather design on the PP blocks in yellow thread and meander the gray.

img_9965

A mini feather and bubble design on the outer border, swirls on the geese and a loop design on the mini black borders.

img_9966

I am happy with the over all effect, you can see the quilting better on the back.

img_9967

Thanks Quilting on the Square http://www.quiltingonthesquare.com for the free patterns, they are currently giving away siw mini block every month, 3 Papaer pieced and 3 applique.

Atom Heart Mother

This is another version of my Atom quilt, again it is reversable, using a pale gray and a dark gray and a lot more freemotion quilting.

img_9990

I  used the circle colours in the binding.

img_9991

I used pale gray thread on one side and dark gray on the other.

I mixed upthe quilting using my pro stitcher and free moting.

I had a lot of fum making this quilt, it turned out really soft.

img_9975

I am calling this quilt, Atom Heart Mother as it is a much more feminine quilt than the Atom quilt.
